The Surgical Procurement and Organ Perfusion Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, staffing and coordinating the procurement of tissues and perfusion of organs in accordance with established standards, policies, procedures, legal, contractual, corporate and regulatory requirements. The Surgical Procurement and Organ Perfusion Coordinator provides on-site clinical supervision, guidance, training, and ensures an optimal quality of work provided by the tissue procurement and organ perfusion staff both full-time and per diem.
Coordinates and ensures adequate coverage of the surgical procurement of tissues including but not limited to musculoskeletal, skin and cardiovascular tissue, team transportation, OR scheduling, and assembly of all necessary staffing, equipment and supplies. Responsible for accurate completion of all paperwork and immediate feedback of case related issue(s) to the Administrator on Call.
Evaluates potential tissue donors according to established criteria and review of screening information and medical social history with tissue processors.
Provides 24/7 on-call coverage on a rotational basis with full time and per diem staff in performing surgical procurement of musculoskeletal, skin, cardiovascular tissue and organ perfusion.
Ensures that the Tissue Procurement and Organ Perfusion Services department adheres to quality standards and legal compliance with LLH, regulatory and accreditation agencies (AOPO, OPTN, CMS, FDA, AATB, etc.).
Ensures that pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative expertise and assistance is available to other Surgical Procurement Coordinators and Procurement Transplant Coordinators, and responds to the requests of the organ procurement surgeon in the organ procurement process.
Acts as a Team Leader to oversee the tissue procurement team and ensures that tissue procurement, packaging, labeling and shipping are completed according to partner processors, AATB, and FDA standards, and provides feedback to the Director of Clinical Services in a timely manner when corrective action is needed.
Ensures that all clinical equipment (e.g. refrigerators, temperature monitors) are properly maintained and calibrated on annual basis or as needed.
Ensures that all supplies are maintained at par levels and regular inventory of clinical supplies is completed.
Ensures the completion of case records, forms, and letters as required by LLH, with special attention to accurate and thorough medical/legal documentation.
