Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
The Department of Laboratories, Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJH), is a full service laboratory, operating 24 hours a day. Laboratory Services are provided in Hematology, Immunology, Chemistry, Toxicology, Flow Cytometry, Cytology, Surgical Pathology, Microbiology, and Transfusion Medicine.� Additionally, BJH operates a Histocompatibility Laboratory (HLA), blood donor/Pheresis Service, a Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory, and Bone Marrow/Stem Cell Preservation Laboratory in support of the tertiary care mission of BJH and laboratory diagnostic needs of BJC HealthCare members and affiliates and other clients.� The laboratory oversees point of care testing hospital-wide. Laboratory analysis is performed on specimens of blood, urine, other body fluids, and tissue specimens submitted for testing on order of a physician or other health care provider approved to order laboratory testing.

Role Purpose
The Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) II performs specimen processing and routine / complex testing on blood and other specimens which requires a knowledge and understanding of quality control, basic instrument maintenance, and procedure methodologies and reference ranges. Maintains appropriate documentation of all activities as required. Demonstrates good clinical laboratory practice
