The Donor Eligibility Coordinator 1 (DEC) is responsible for helping to ensure that standards identified for aspects of tissue banking have been met. This position is necessary to ensure the safety and quality of tissue recovered and processed for clinical use. Specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to: review of all tissue recovery documentation and relevant medical records to determine donor eligibility, infectious disease tracking, internal and external auditing, SOP development, training/in-servicing, data collection and entry, records management.
Responsibilities:
Assists the Director Foundation Donor Services and/or designee as directed.
Responsible for the review of all recovery documentation and relevant medical records to ensure compliance with LifeLink Tissue Bank/AATB standards as well as FDA and state regulations to determine donor eligibility.
Responsible to communicate with/guide Tissue Recovery Partners and LifeLink OPOs on pending items required to complete donor eligibility documentation.
Responsible for divisional and partner recovery agency follow-up to ensure timely collection of recovery documentation.
Responsible for understanding serology test requirements and for tracking donor serology testing to ensure that appropriate testing was performed by a qualified lab.
Assists in the performance of audits (internal and external)
Assists with entry of information into the tissue bank database and electronic donor record storage system.
Responsible for the maintenance of records and data collection to help ensure all required elements of the Quality System are met.
Assists in the training of Recovery Personnel.
Optional not required can participate in Cooler Call which includes tracking, receiving, and processing of the coolers containing donated tissue (including evenings, weekends, and holidays on a call rotation).
Assists in the investigation and documentation of Corrective Action Reports, and Recovery Errors.
Assists in writing and maintenance of tissue bank policies, procedures, division partner profiles, and guidelines.
Participate in meetings and prepare data for review as requested.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required; or Associates Degree & minimum of 1 year tissue banking QA donor eligibility review experience; or LPN/RN (with a minimum of an Associates Degree preferred) or High school Diploma with minimum of 5 years tissue banking donor eligibility related experience.
Medical Technology or Nursing background is preferred.
Work requires familiarity with medical terminology and ability to review/interpret in-patient medical/hospital records.
Requires ability to work in a cleanroom environment and be exposed to recovery and processing of human tissue.
Requires strong computer, communication and writing skills in order to produce business level correspondence, audit reports, SOPs and presentations.
Requires the mental ability and knowledge to assist in the internal and external audits.
Requires the mental ability to analyze documentation and identify breaches in policy.
Requires excellent organizational skills, ability to pay attention to detail and multi-task.
Work requires strong computer, communication and writing skills.
Work requires the ability to construct and produce business level correspondence.
Working Conditions:
Work requires extended hours during peak processing and/or procurement periods. Hazardous conditions include, but are not limited to, the possible exposure to microorganisms, viruses, potentially infectious body fluids and hazardous chemicals.
